How uQualio works for Fcode Labs

The Challenge

Fcode Labs, founded in 2018, is a software engineering company with offices in Sri Lanka and Singapore. It builds digital products and provides remote engineering teams for clients in industries such as healthcare, manufacturing, and mobility.

Every new engineer needed an orientation on company processes. But the people running them were busy, so sessions were delayed or missed. Fcode also needed its training formally documented for ISO certification.

Fcode Labs needed a solution that:

  • Gave every new hire the same orientation, on time
  • Didn’t depend on senior staff being free
  • Documented processes for ISO audits
  • Was easy to update as processes changed
FcodeLab working together

The Solution

Fcode Labs chose uQualio for its employee onboarding.

The team recorded two video series explaining the engineering department’s processes and procedures. They’re now the main orientation for new engineers, split into short videos people can take at their own pace.

“We can update some parts of the orientation without re-doing the whole thing.”

When a process changes, Fcode updates one short video instead of rerecording the whole course. Managers can also see who has completed the orientation.

The Result

Video onboarding has made training faster and more consistent:

  • Training time cut in half
  • Orientations delivered to every new employee without delays
  • New hires can rewatch any part whenever they need
  • Training formalized without separate documentation

“Everyone appreciates the flexibility it offers because the orientation courses can be taken at the employee’s convenience,” says Buddhishan.

Next, Fcode plans to bring its QA, HR, and marketing teams onto uQualio. “We hope to incorporate all the aspects of training and development of the company into this platform.”

Q: Tell us a bit about your company and what your company does?

“We are Fcode Labs. A software company that specializes in establishing remote engineering teams.”

Q: What problem were you facing before buying uQualio? Why did you start looking for a software solution, like uQualio?

“We had no structured way of delivering the orientations regarding company processes and procedures to new employees joining the company, which was also a mandatory requirement for our ISO certification.”

Q: When did you first discover uQualio?

“We knew Christian, Hatla, and the team before using uQualio at Fcode Labs. We learned about the product from them and through LinkedIn.”

Q: What kept you from buying uQualio sooner?

“The urgency of formalising our internal processes.”

Q: What was your main concern that would have prevented you from buying this, and what put your fears to rest?

“There weren’t any. We may have delayed it a few months since we were improving our other internal processes while implementing the training and orientation mechanisms.”

Q: Why did you end up choosing uQualio as your provider?

“It resolves all the process problems we have. In addition, we saw the enthusiasm and the energy behind the founders.”

Q: What made you choose uQualio over anything else you could have done?

“We didn’t really consider any other options as uQualio was conveniently available at hand.”

Q: Today you use the uQualio platform. Can you tell me how you use it?

“We’ve recorded two series of videos explaining the processes and procedures within the engineering department and this acts as our primary orientation for anyone joining newly to the department. The concept of micro-learning and the ability to shoot and go live fast is a good advantage. We will be extending this way of training to our other departments – QA, HR, Marketing, etc.”

Q: What was the problem you were hoping to solve?

“Inability to do live orientation or training to employees repeatedly was an issue. We had the issue of finding free time in the schedules of the resource personnel for delivering these orientations which resulted in delays for the newly joined employees or completely missing out some of the orientations.”

Q: What results do you get/have you gotten from uQualio?

“We have been able to consistently provide the orientations to the new employees without delays with the added benefit of monitoring how well they grasp the contents. They can watch again and again easily. We can update some parts of the orientation without re-doing the whole thing.”

Q: What are three benefits you’ve experienced because of subscribing to uQualio?

“We love the flexibility of adding videos and attaching other resource documents so that everything can be delivered as a package without worrying about missing anything, which would be the case if we followed a traditional method.”

Q: What exactly do you like most about uQualio?

“The fact that there isn’t any limitation to what kind of content we can deliver.”

Q: What has surprised you the most or made you the happiest about subscribing to uQualio?

“That, now we know we are under control of our training.”

Q: Which features on the uQualio platform have you found to be the most valuable for you?

“Reports and user management.”

Q: How do you feel that uQualio has helped your organization? (Saved you training time? Saved you money? Helped facilitate communication?)

“It has saved the time of resource personnel for training as it eliminates them having to do trainings each time someone new joins the company.”

Q: In what ways have you seen training improvements internally and externally?

“The internal training courses are more formalized and have eliminated the need to document them separately. And we can follow up on the courses in ISO9001 and 27001 certification.”

Q: What kind of feedback have you received about training through a video eLearning platform?

“Everyone appreciates the flexibility it offers because the orientation courses can be taken at the employee’s convenience whereas the traditional method would’ve required finding free time for the trainer and adjusting the trainees’ schedule around it.”

Q: What about the future of training at your company? How do you envision that uQualio can enable your scale and growth as a company?

“We hope to incorporate all the aspects of training and development of the company into this platform.”

Q: Why would you recommend uQualio to someone who might be on the fence?

“Having all your training materials in one place and the flexibility to update them as necessary is really great. And the founders with great enthusiasm and mission.”

Q: If you were to recommend uQualio to your best friend, what would you say?

“Please try it out, it takes away a lot of the training related worries you may have.”

Q: What advice would you give to others that are looking at potentially switching to a video eLearning platform for their training needs?

“Check how easy is to update small parts of the courses, and how easy for the management to see who is learning and who has not gone through the material, which is very important.”
