At the end of June 2024, uQualio’s founders packed their bags and went to Malasiya, to Kuching the capital city of the state of Sarawak on Borneo. It is a vibrant and charming city that offers a perfect blend of old-world charm and modernity. It is known for its rich cultural heritage, stunning architecture, and lush landscapes. Kuching is a must-visit destination for travelers seeking a unique and immersive experience. But was the purpose holiday?
No – it was a work-cation. uQualio is part of the EdViCon Erasmus+ project where scholars from 7 universities are making Portable Video Conferencing Toolkits adapted to the local contexts.
The Universiti of Teknologi Mara (UiTM) (the Sarawak branch) is also a project partner
And they invited us to the first EdViCon Multiplier event at the University of Sarawak. The purpose was to present all the findings from the research and to bring it on to people from Asia, so they can enhance engaging distance learning for their students.
Day 1: Edvicon Project Meetings
We started with a day of project meetings, going through the overall progress of the project, and the finances, but the main topic was coordinating the final details of the agenda for the multiplier event.
It was nice for the first time in 2,5 years to meet all the project partners coming from Technical University of Denmark (DTU), An-Najah National University Palestine (ANNU), Mae Fah Luang University Thailand (MFU), University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB), Aix-Marseille University France (AMU), Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), and Universiti of Teknologi Mara Malaysia (UiTM).
Day 2: Multiplier Event
The event started with a lot of participants and good spirits – and people were listening to all the findings of the project with great interest 😉
Among the delivery was the introduction of the Toolkits that have been developed on the Edvicon uQualio platform.
All participants were asked to scan a QR code to go to the EdViCon platform to watch a toolkit – and everyone got very busy with their phones taking their online learning.
– and they were delighted when they got their badge.
Day 3-4: Presentation of Toolkits
On the last two days of the multiplier event, even more participants came. It was the days when they got to try and set up the actual toolkit systems and ask questions.
Maria from the University of Aiz-Marseille and I held a combined workshop where Maria presented the TPACK model – what is important when teaching online.
Maria introduced examples of how to keep students engaged during the online lessons with Miro.
Here are some video impressions from other participants:
At the end of the event, presents and thank you’s were exchanged.
Day 5: Evaluation, EdViCon Next Steps, and Rainforest Visit
In real Borneo style, the stay ended with a trip to a rainforest national park.
Here we say the beautiful orangutans – Borneo is the only place they live in the world.
Thank you UITM for a fantastic event and experience!
