Erik’s commitment to advancing education and his outstanding contributions to educator training have earned him a well-deserved recognition as one of the World’s Top 30 Education Professionals for 2024.  

He has been named among the Top 30 Global Gurus 2024 – Education by research organization Global Gurus sixth time in a row. Among other prominent recipients of the title “World’s Top 30 Education Professionals for 2024” are Erik’s friends Rick Jetter, Tom Hierck and Joseph Renzulli; and his fellow authors Muhammad, Tina Boogren, Mike Mattos, Principal Kafele, Carol Ann Tomlinson, and Doug Fisher.  

With over 25 years of diverse education experience, he has served as a classroom teacher, site administrator, education program specialist, and trainer of educators and school leaders. His versatile background highlights his deep understanding of the educational scene and his passion to foster excellence in teaching and learning. 

As the author of groundbreaking works, including “Deconstructing Depth of Knowledge: A Method and Model for Deeper Teaching and Learning” published by Solution Tree and “Now That’s a Good Question! How to Promote Cognitive Rigor Through Classroom Questioning” published by ASCD, Erik has established himself as a thought leader in inquiry-based teaching, cognitive rigor, and standards-based learning. His expertise also extends to areas like authentic learning, differentiated instruction, and talent development, making him a sought-after resource for educators worldwide. 

Through Maverik Education, Erik continues to empower educators with professional development, consultation, and coaching aimed at enhancing student achievement, teacher effectiveness, and overall school performance. His impact reaches far and wide, with engagements at educational institutions across the U.S. and other countries, such as Canada, Singapore, Malaysia, and Dubai. 

Erik’s passion for education is evident in his extensive academic background, which includes a Master’s in Education Leadership from Northern Arizona University and a Master’s of Science in Television/Radio/Film Production and Management from Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications. Additionally, he holds a Bachelor’s of Arts in Communication and Rhetoric from the University at Albany.
